High-speed chase from Milan to Medina lands 2 in jail
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A high-speed car chase leading law enforcement from Milan to Medina lands two people in jail.
Officials say the car chase started at the Wal-Mart in Milan where police say the suspect was caught shoplifting. Chief Bobby Sellers with the Milan Police Department says they saw the truck as it was leaving the parking lot and that’s when the pursuit started.
“One of our patrol officers went to the scene and observed the vehicle leaving the parking lot headed south on Highway 45,” Sellers said. “He got in a low-speed pursuit of the vehicle out in the county.”
Police say Laney Haze Fowler led Milan and Media police on a chase through the backroads of Gibson County.
“When they got to the intersection of Highway 187 and Highway 45, the suspect that they were chasing, the passenger jumped out of the vehicle while the vehicle was still moving,” Chief Sellers said.
Police say Fowler hit a parked vehicle at a used car dealership at the intersection causing damage to one of the cars.
Officials say Fowler did not stop and headed toward Medina.
“He was not stopping,” Medina Interim Police Chief Jason Oliver said. “He did not stop for an 18-wheeler on Highway 187. He didn’t hit the brakes other than trying to wreck us out — he never used the brakes.”
Fowler was eventually run off the road by the Medina Police Department.
“It crossed over the bypass almost hitting one of my officers,” Chief Oliver said. “It was extremely close to a daycare center. It was off road and dangerous, and we made the call to take it out.”
Chief Sellers said the woman, April Woods, sustained some injuries that were not life threatening.
Fowler was booked into the Milan jail but we’re told he will be transferred to the Gibson County Jail.
So far, police have charged him with reckless endangerment, evading arrest and theft.
Police say he’s also wanted out of Madison County for a parole violation.
Woods is charged with misdemeanor theft and is currently in the Gibson County Jail.
