Martin Westview Head Football Coach Steps Down
MARTIN, Tenn — After 30 years of teaching, 25 years of coaching, head football coach Don Coady, is resigning from the Westview School District. Word got out Tuesday afternoon and spread quickly throughout the community.
When Coady took over, the program was inconsistent and up and down, they lacked consistency. After taking the helm, Coady restored the schools dominance, making them a contender year in and year out.
After accepting the job, Coady did not think he would be there 25 years later, but he cherishes the time he’s spent, and the relationships he’s formed over the years.
Stepping down has been on his mind the past two or three seasons he said, so it was not a shock to the people close to him.
“I don’t want him to retire and he knows I don’t want him to retire, but that’s his decision to make and I wish him the absolute very best,” said principal Jeromy Davidson.
Assistant coach Blake Stigall said the news shocked him, but it really won’t settle in, until they take the field in the fall and realizes he’s not going to be on the sideline with the Chargers.
“Well you know he’s been here for 25 years, I’m 27, so I know I’ve never seen where I can comprehend a Westview team without him on the sideline,” said Stigall.
“I’ve kind of had a feeling the last two or three years. Little bit of restlessness, not unhappy here, I didn’t need a job, didn’t necessarily want another job but I just wanted a change,” said Coady.
Coady leaves the Westview Chargers with high hopes, helping them win 199 games and only 97 losses in his 25 year tenure.
