ABC anchor on Mississippi law: Equal treatment for everyone

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Robin Roberts says “everyone” should be treated equally after Mississippi lawmakers passed a law saying religious groups and some private businesses can cite moral beliefs to deny services to lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people.

In a statement issued Friday, the co-anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America” says “it hurts my soul” that anyone might not be welcome in Mississippi.

Roberts says “everyone, everywhere should be treated equally.”

Roberts proudly proclaims her roots on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, posing earlier for the cover of this year’s guide published by the Mississippi Tourism Association.

She also hasn’t been shy about her relationship with longtime partner Amber Laign since Roberts announced in 2013 that she was lesbian.
