4 men charged in Huntingdon flash mob thefts appear in court
HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — Four men appeared Thursday morning in Carroll County General Sessions Court on charges stemming from flash mob thefts at a local convenience store.
They faced the woman who says she was working the night of Feb. 21 when around 30 men entered Huck’s in Huntingdon.
“I had six people in front of me, legitimately trying to buy something to distract me, and then one person walked out of the store carrying a 12-pack of soda. I notified them I was calling police,” Rayann Black said.
Huntingdon police released photos and showed surveillance footage in court, showing who they said were four of the men charged in the crime.
Carroll County Deputy Carlton Cupples and Huntingdon police Sgt. Brad Allen also took the stand, each explaining what happened after the store clerk called 911, which led to officers getting involved in a chase.
“They tried to ram me off the road two more times,” Deputy Cupples said. “Then they hit their brakes after we got a couple of miles on down the road, and then I went on by and they turned in the pursuit. They started back toward Huntingdon.”
Deputies said Jeromee White was driving a white SUV and led police on a high-speed chase, at one point even turning off his headlights.
Franklin Gill is also charged with theft under $500 and possession of schedule VI.
Both cases were bound over to a grand jury, which will be held May 9.
“Looking at the videos, obviously nobody was paying for anything,” Judge Larry Logan said. “All just came in and then all took off and just up and down the aisles grabbing stuff.”
Chris Robertson and Brazton Stevinson were scheduled to appear Thursday but had their date reset for June 9.
