Economic development groups look to revitalize Greenville
GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) – Greenville has joined with several partners for a project aimed at revitalizing the Washington County city located in the heart of the Mississippi Delta.
The city, developer Bill Boykin, Guaranty Bank and Trust Company, U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation and Enhanced Community Development, a subsidiary of Enhanced Capital, plan to redevelop the former Sears, Roebuck & Company store built in the 1940s and three adjacent buildings.
Officials say it’s a $9.1 million project four years in the making that will provide an estimated 36 permanent jobs and help spur the area’s economy.
Mayor Errick Simmons says the building stands in the heart of downtown and will become a showcase property when renovations are completed in July 2017 with retail space, a health-care component, microbrewery and full restaurant and boutique hotel.
