Knoxville City Council approves food truck ordinance
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Knoxville City Council members have decided to allow smoked-meat food trucks within the city limits, as long as they are at least 100 feet away from homes.
News outlets report that the council’s decision resolved one of the major points of contention that held up the proposed food-truck ordinance for more than four months. All other trucks must be at least 15 feet away from residential properties.
The new ordinance, which unanimously passed Tuesday on first reading, also lowered the permit fee, added temporary permits for out-of-town vendors, and reduced insurance requirements.
The ordinance has a second reading in two weeks.
