AutoZone to add 100 new jobs in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — AutoZone announced plans Monday to add 100 new jobs in Lexington over the next two and half years.

autozone“We’re increasing the number of deliveries that we make to our stores each week,” AutoZone Distribution Center Manager Joey Hamm said. “We’re also adding parts to our inventory.”

Hamm said AutoZone already employs more than 400 people at a distribution center in Lexington. The company said it will lease an additional 150,000-square-foot facility from the city on Industrial Drive.

Hamm said they ran out of room. “We’ve been in this building for 23 years and we have exceeded our capacity,” he said.

Hamm said the five-year agreement also gives them the opportunity to purchase the building if they want to.

“It’s a win for AutoZone and certainly a win for the city of Lexington,” Lexington Mayor David Jowers said.

Jowers said the city lost a lot of manufacturing jobs when the recession hit. “We’re making a comeback,” he said. “I think today is the beginning.”

Hamm said they are hiring drivers, distribution center workers and possibly a couple management positions. “A great workforce here in Henderson County and Lexington, so it’s just the obvious choice for us to expand here in Lexington,” he said.

AutoZone said they already moved into the new building that is a former manufacturing facility.
