Students get whale-educated at Malesus Elementary

JACKSON, Tenn. — Students at Malesus Elementary School got to take a study break Monday afternoon for a whale of a surprise.

Whale exhibit Malesus JSCCScience Ambassadors from Jackson State Community College shared whale facts with the students and showed them around an 85-foot whale that nearly covered the gym floor.

“We like to have fun, we like to do experiments to show them science is fun, and the whale over here, we’re using the whale just to give out more facts about nature,” said Nicholas Wallace, a science ambassador from JSCC.

One student told us the highlight of the whale’s visit was being able to take a peek inside the mammal’s mouth.

The whale has been used as a teaching tool in Jackson for almost two decades.
