Doctors urge awareness after measles cases reported in West TN
JACKSON, Tenn.-There is a health scare across one part of West Tennessee after two cases of the measles are reported.
The Tennessee Department of Health is investigating the cases after the CDC confirmed two people in Shelby County have the highly contagious infection. The state Department of Health is urging all Tennesseans to have heightened awareness about the measles and its symptoms.
“It looks a lot like a kid with the flu, upper respiratory stuff… by that cough real, real itchy eyes.. runny nose.. But they’ll also within three to seven days develop a typical rash. It’s a very red, splotchy rash. You haven’t seen anything like it,” said Dr. Peter Gardner with Physicians Quality Care.
Doctors said the highly contagious illness can lead to pneumonia and even inflammation of the brain.
