Humboldt HS students put on mock crash to show dangers of drunken, distracted driving

HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Local students got a chance to see some of the consequences of distracted driving Friday during a mock crash.

Humboldt mock crashAround 50 Humboldt High School students participated and watched the mock crash behind their school.

First responders educated the students on why they shouldn’t drink or text while driving. Students involved in the demonstration were cut out of cars while others were able to watch just a few feet away.

“Walking back in with them today after we were through, we were all saying ‘we’re not going to let you make the bad decisions. I’ll take your keys and I’ll take your car’ and stuff,” said Robyn Barrett, a senior at Humboldt High School. “So we did realize that we may not talk on a daily basis, but we realize we don’t want to lose each other.”

School officials say around 40 volunteers participated in the crash, which they hope will encourage students to have fun but be responsible.
