Jackson officials: Suspicious package at building no threat
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A suspicious package has been detonated after officials say it was found outside a federal building in Jackson.
Officials tell media outlets that the package, which was found Thursday outside the McCoy Federal Building, posed no threat.
Jackson police Cmdr. Jarrett Taylor says a man was seen on surveillance video just before 11 a.m. driving up to the building and leaving an envelope that had some powder on it outside the back entryway.
Authorities were called to the scene.
Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green says the bomb squad was activated, and that the agents disposed of the package.
Green says the building wasn’t evacuated, but roadways surrounding the building were blocked off for about two hours.
Taylor says they are looking for the suspect.
