“Just kindergarten is that first year that your in school. It was always a special year for me, it’s your first year away from your parents and just finding that love from your teacher.”

Cherry said kindergarten was her most memorable year in school and it is what inspired her to become a teacher.

“Thinking back I always remember my kindergarten teacher, Miss Pam Betler, and she always inspired me. It was just the grade that I that I thought about and remembered.”

Her favorite part about being a teacher is the ‘ah-ha’ moment for her students and said getting to know them makes a good educator. Plus, she enjoys keeping in touch with the families even after they leave her class.

“I hope that I’ve shown them that school is a great place. It’s a wonderful place that they can come feel safe, be loved and enjoy.”

Cherry will now be eligible for the state-wide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award. Starting in May to vote for her or any of the other nominees go to: seehowitaddsup.com
