Charity Cruise In raises money for Alzheimer’s Awareness
BRADFORD, Tenn. — One local community is backing one of their own who is battling early onset Alzheimer’s Disease.
Ruby Hampton’s daughter, Renee, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at 52 years old. Now six years later, their Bradford community is standing with her family.
“She started forgetting, so much that we started to notice it you know? and it just kept getting more and more,” Hampton said. “We need to fight Alzheimer’s there is just no cure as far as I know now and there just doesn’t seem to be any cure at all and i hope someday we can find a cure.”
‘Jus’ Bike Me’ held their second annual Charity Cruise in Saturday.
“We do a charity every year. We started last year, and we did it for multiple sclerosis last year because Mitzi has MS, so we wanted to raise awareness for MS. This year we are doing it for Alzheimer’s,” owner Bobby Brooks said.
Some of these bikers traveled around 200 miles to raise support for Alzheimer’s, and many of these bikers say that the disease has affected them in some way.
“I don’t think there is a family out there that hasn’t been touched in someway by Alzheimer’s or dementia in some way. It’s a debilitating disease,” Mitzi Brooks said. Her mother passed away from Alzheimer’s last year.
The Charity Cruise In brought in around 220 bikes and around 500 people from across the Mid-South, and all the funds are going to help support Renee and Alzheimer’s research.
“It just takes your life away and I hope that we can all fight it and we can all do something to help with this Alzheimer’s thing,” Hampton said.
