Peyton Manning coming to Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn. — Dozens of West Tennesseans fill a downtown church for United Way’s annual community celebration breakfast. It’s a chance for the nonprofit to say ‘thank you’ to some of its largest sponsors.

ManningSpeakers say because of their generosity, they’re able to serve thousands of West Tennesseans each year. “We served over 48,000 people in areas of education, income and health,” says Mike Overby with Central Distributors.

President and CEO, Scott Conger, told United Way supporters some of the group’s traditions may be changing with the launch of the Unitas” campaign which will feature college football and NFL legend Peyton Manning.

Manning will visit the Hub City in July.

“We wanted to make a big slash; have a big name—have someone come that people can get really excited about,” says Conger. Conger says even with the new campaign, which translates into ‘Oneness’, the mission is the same, “To bring together resources and to build a healthier community—and to do that we want to just further enhance our mission so we have to look at ways to create sustainable social change.”

As part of the breakfast celebration, United Way honored Sabrina Anderson with the Boys and Girls Club as their outstanding nonprofit executive this year with the David Hallock Award.
