Minute of Exercise: PLOS Study

PLOSBeing active is known as one of the best ways to staying fit, but according to a press release a professor of kinesiology, Martin Gibala says, “Most people cite ‘lack of time’ as the main reason for not being active.” The “lack of time” may no longer be a valid excuse for not being active according to a study conducted by Gibala and fellow researchers. This study was published Tuesday in PLOS One and shows that one minute of “all in” exercising is as beneficial as a 45 minute moderate workout.

27 “sedentary men” were split into three groups with the first group remaining inactive, the second group did 45 minutes of moderate exercise and the third group did 10 minutes of sprint interval training. Both groups that were active worked out three times a week for 12 weeks and showed nearly identical health and fitness improvements.
