Police: Suspect jumps off 50-foot bridge during police chase
PEARL, Miss. (AP) – The Pearl Police Department has arrested a man they say jumped off a bridge to evade authorities.
Captain Brian McGarity says officials arrested 20-year-old Romello Shance James on felony fleeing charges after the long police chase.
McGarity says the incident began Wednesday night after an officer tried to pull over the suspect. He says the suspect sped away before spinning out of control.
James them exited the vehicle and jumped over a 50-foot bridge. He hit some trees and landed on the ground. He then took off again and police chased him through a storm drain before catching him.
James wrestled with authorities, but officials used a stun gun to restrain him.
He was hospitalized with minor injuries.
It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
