Sheriff Mehr issues another phone scam alert
JACKSON, Tenn. — Madison County Sheriff John Mehr is alerting citizens of a phone scam where a caller is claiming to be a member of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. This person is threatening to have the citizen arrested because they failed to show up to a court appointment; an appointment that is fake.
The first alert came Saturday, April 23 where the Sheriff’s Public Information Officer, Tom Mapes, sent out information about a scammer threatening to arrest citizens who do not pay an unspecified amount of money. The second alert was sent out Friday.
Sheriff Mehr asks citizens to be aware that this is an attempt to take your money and the calls are not coming from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. He says the Sheriff’s Office never places threatening phone calls demanding money.
If you receive a call that fits this description, hang up and call the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 731-423-6000.
