TBI arrests Clarksville man on sex trafficking charge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Clarksville man has been arrested Thursday and charged with trafficking a juvenile for the purpose of sex.

HeltonSpecial agents in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Human Trafficking Unit, assisted by agents from the Investigation Division and the Clarksville Police Department arrested 34-year-old Michael Scott Helton, an unregistered sex offender, after authorities developed information that he trafficked a 17-year-old female for purposes of providing a commercial sex act at a Clarksville motel, according to a police report.

Officials received information about Helton from the National Human Trafficking Hotline that led to the investigation.

Helton has been charged with one count of Trafficking for a Commercial Sex act.

According to authorities, Helton was booked in the Montgomery County Jail and is being held on a $55,000 bond.

The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services and the Child Advocacy Center are assisting the TBI in caring for the recovered juvenile.
