Thousands drawn to Fish Fry Grand Floats Parade

PARIS, Tenn. — There are more than 100 floats in this year’s “World’s Biggest Fish Fry” Grand Floats Parade. Parade goers say the biggest reason they come is the tradition.

Parade attendee, Gwenda Kendall says, “Originally from Paris, Tennessee but I live in Chattanooga, Tennessee, so I’m down here visiting—enjoying everything.”

Fish Fry bandThis week in Paris brings many back to their hometown. “Coming to the Fish Fry has always been a big thing for us. Even when I was in High school, we always came over and walked, marched in the parade, the band did,” says parade attendee, Lisa Moore.

A tradition now 63-years strong.

“I know 32 floats. There’s 60-something cars, firetrucks, six bands. It’s just going to be a great day,” says Parade Director, Loria Plunk

Some have begun traditions of their own. David “Tater” Hayes is over the Fish Tent where the fried good are served. A ball of aluminum shows just how much is made each year and he’s had this going on for 16 years. “We use this aluminum foil to cover up our pots and stuff at night and every year we just keep adding to it and adding to it and now she weighs over a hundred pounds,” says Hayes.

This year’s Grand Marshal has traveled more this year than she ever has, serving as Miss Tennessee. “I travel the whole state. I traveled more than 80,000 miles this year, so I don’t get to be back in my hometown very often, but to be back and be able to serve my community in such a large capacity as Grand Marshal has been an incredible experience,” says Miss Tennessee, Hannah Robison.Fish Fry

Whatever it is that brings you to the “World’s Biggest Fish Fry,” residents say they’ll probably catch you right back here for the next one.
