Three dogs rescued after abandoned in field with bag of food
CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn.—Another heartbreaking case of animal abandonment out of West Tennessee; four dogs were discovered dumped in a field earlier this week.
The Carroll County Humane Society said three older dogs were found and rescued after being abandoned in a field near Gleason Wednesday.
“Two of our wonderful teenage volunteers found them with a bag of food and they were just dumped in a field and left on there own devices right before the big storms were rolling in on Wednesday,” volunteer Jennifer Barker said.
Volunteers said they are unsure of when the dogs were dumped, however they were able to rescue three of the four dogs, and they still have live traps set up to bring the fourth one in safely.
“Dumping is absolutely illegal it is illegal in the state of Tennessee, and there are fines if the person is caught,” Barker said.
Those who work at the shelter said it’s up to the community to stop these crimes happening to animals.
“That relies on the community,if you see somebody dropping something off and just leaving it in the field call someone, call us call the police department,” Assistant Kennel Manager Levi Stewart said.
Since coming to the shelter the three dogs have been receiving medical care and attention and are up for adoption.
“They took the responsibility to provide for a living organism like a living thing, and to just throw that out like it’s nothing that’s like throwing out a child,” Stewart.
If you have any information about regarding these dogs and who may have dumped them you can contact the Weakley County Sheriff’s Office.
