Accused gunman charged with shooting man in face during drug deal

JACKSON, Tenn. — An accused gunman is charged with attempted murder on accusations of shooting a man in the face during a drug deal.

Almonda Duckworth is now facing charges in the April 25 incident at Parkway East Apartments, also known as 33 Carver. Police say the victim was able to identify him as the shooter.

According to court papers, Duckworth and another man showed up unannounced around 4 a.m. at an apartment and asked to buy marijuana.

After the occupant of the apartment gave Duckworth the marijuana, Duckworth then shot the man in the face and left with the marijuana, according to police.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to Regional One in Memphis.

The victim later told police what happened and identified Duckworth as the man who shot him. The victim was released from the hospital April 29.

Police say they identified the man who was with Duckworth and that he also identified Duckworth as the gunman.

Duckworth is charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and especially aggravated robbery.

He is being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond.
