Jackson Police raid home, arrest burglary suspect
JACKSON, Tenn. — A north Jackson neighborhood was swarmed by a SWAT team and investigators Wednesday as a home is raided.
WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News had a crew on the scene as dozens of high price items were taken from a home on Brooksie’s Pond as evidence in what officers are calling an “ongoing investigation.”
“We developed information that there was some stolen property at this house,” Capt. Tyreece Miller with the Jackson Police Dept. said. “We came here armed with a search warrant.”
Jackson Police said this raid stems from a break-in at a business only a few streets away.
“This is in reference to an ongoing investigation,” Capt. Miller said. “There was a burglary and theft at a local furniture store here in north Jackson.”
Plywood still covers the window police said the thieves broke to get into Coffman’s Home Furnishings late last month. A number of pieces of furniture could be seen being loaded back into a Coffman’s trucks from the home Wednesday.
“I can’t get into the details of all that was taken but there were several items,” Miller said. “Enough that we felt it was necessary to call Coffman’s here and we turned the property back over to them.”
Although investigators are not giving much details on the items they recovered WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News crews witnessed computers, power-tools, a large safe and even weapons like pistols and an assault rifle all being tagged as evidence by police.
“We recovered the stolen property we were looking for,” Capt. Miller said. “We did take a man into custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
Officers said the person they took into custody lives inside that Brooksie’s Pond home. They are not releasing his name until the person is formally charged.
