Man charged in furniture store break-in after raid of north Jackson home

JACKSON, Tenn. — Authorities filed formal charges Friday against a man accused of stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from a furniture store in Jackson.

andrewkimAndrew Kim, 31, appeared Friday morning in Jackson City Court on burglary, vandalism and theft counts. He’s accused of breaking into Coffman’s Home Furnishings on the Highway 45 Bypass on April 22.

“There were high-dollar items that were taken,” Capt. Tyreece Miller with the Jackson Police Department said.

Miller said they found furniture from Coffman’s inside Kim’s house on Brooksies Pond Cove on Wednesday after executing a search warrant.

Kim is accused of breaking a window at the furniture store, causing nearly $2,000 worth of damage, and stealing about $6,000 in merchandise, according to court documents. Investigators said some of the stolen items include furniture, a mattress, lamps and a painting.

Police said they were able to recover and return all of the merchandise stolen from Coffman’s.

Officers said they also confiscated weapons from Kim’s home because he had previously been served with an order of protection filed against him. “Based upon the law, he has to depose himself of any weapons when he’s under an order of protection,” Miller said.

The prosecutor told the judge he believes other jurisdictions may bring charges against Kim.

Kim is currently being held at the Madison County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. He is due back in court at 9:30 a.m. June 2.
