THP investigate fatal Weakley Co. crash

MARTIN, Tenn.–The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash involving a cyclist Sunday afternoon.

According to a preliminary report sent via email, 54-year-old Robert Pettit was traveling southbound on a “pedalcycle” along Highway 22.

Investigators said the crash happened near the intersection of Adams Chapel Road around 2:30 p.m.

The release states Pettit was not wearing a helmet while traveling on the right shoulder of the highway before crossing into the path of a Pontiac.

According to the report, the driver of the Pontiac was not injured.
