Area crime sweep nets dozens of arrests

JACKSON, Tenn. — A law enforcement sweep Wednesday led to dozens of arrests across the six-county area that makes up the 26th and 28th State Judicial Districts.

Crime sweep picDuring the operation, 39 people were arrested for various state violations ranging from firearm and narcotics offenses to traffic offenses, according to a release from the 26th and 28th Judicial Districts’ Multi-Jurisdictional Violent Crime and Gang Task Force. Officers also issued several misdemeanor citations.

Officers in Gibson, Haywood, Henderson and Madison counties were involved in saturation patrols in high-crime areas which included hundreds of traffic stops and more than 50 probation and parole compliance checks.

The 26th State Judicial District includes Chester, Henderson and Madison Counties. The 28th State Judicial District includes Crockett, Gibson and Haywood counties.

There was one firearm and various amounts of marijuana, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy and drug paraphernalia seized during the operations at various locations throughout the six-county area that makes up the 26th and 28th State Judicial Districts, the release states.

The sweep also concluded a four-month-long undercover investigation into drug and gang activity in Jackson, according to the release.

This undercover investigation led officers to recover about 126 grams of crack cocaine, 11 grams of powder cocaine, 20 hydrocodone pills, about 124 grams of marijuana, three handguns and 38 stolen tires, according to the release.

The investigation led to the arrests of four men.

James Cobb aka “Pee Wee” was indicted on four counts of theft of property, three counts of sale and delivery of cocaine, possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent to delivery in a school zone, four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and four counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Terrance Whiteside aka “Trouble” was indicted for sale and delivery of cocaine in a school zone and two counts of sale and delivery of cocaine.

Courtney McCorkle aka “Cork” was indicted for two counts of sale and delivery of cocaine in a school zone.

Kristopher Temple aka “Fat Cat” was indicted for sale and delivery of cocaine in a school zone.
