JACKSON, Tenn. — New business is springing up all across the Hub City this year. According to the Madison County Clerk’s Office, there have been nearly 250 new businesses to apply for a license.

“Whether those are small office spaces or restaurants or retail, I think Jackson is doing well and will continue to do so in 2016,” Ryan Porter with the Jackson Chamber said.

The clerk’s office said as of May 16, they have issued 242 new business licenses. Last year in 2015 they had only issued 198 by May 16.

“It’s a small town atmosphere, but it’s got a lot of amenities like larger cities,” Chris Alexander with the Jackson Walk said. “It’s got a great quality of life and low cost of living.”

The chamber says they work every year to bring in bigger companies like manufacturing and health care jobs to bring more people into Jackson, which they say in turn creates more opportunities for businesses like PizzaRev to open up.

“So it’s sort of a trickle down effect where we create jobs in the industry, manufacturing and health care level, and then those jobs trickle down to quality of life things like shopping and restaurants,” Porter said.

Local developers say Jackson is centrally located and a lot of smaller communities in West Tennessee travel to Jackson for shopping, eating and entertainment.

“The city of Jackson is around 70,000 population in city, and county is about 100,000, but one of the biggest selling points that we say is our trade population is about half a million folks with a lot of these closer counties,” Alexander said.

PizzaRev is set to open June 2 off of Vann Drive in the Columns.

Some other new businesses coming to Jackson will be opening up soon. Polish Nails will open its doors in the Jackson Walk by the end of the month. A new Subway off of Dr. F.E. Wright Drive will open this summer as well as a Jet’s Pizza next to the Subway set to open in September.
