Suspects charged in February beating face additional charges
DECATURVILLE, Tenn. — Four suspects previously charged in a February beating that left a 20-year-old man close to death appeared in court Friday to face 11 additional charges.
“Counts one and two, aggravated rape — counts three, four, five, criminal responsibility for aggravated rape,” Judge Creed McGinley said. Other counts include assault and especially aggravated kidnapping.
According to investigators, the victim was beaten with bricks and sexually assaulted with a stick after being dumped in the woods.
The victim’s family says these are dangerous men who should not be free on bond. “They’re a nuisance to society, and anybody could be next. My son was done this way for no reason whatsoever,” the victim’s father, Joseph Borden, said.
The victim’s family did not attend the arraignment because they were in Mississippi for their son’s surgery. “The scars on his face are really bad,” Borden said. “He’s emotionally drained from just the rape and everything alone, but we don’t feel like he’ll ever recover from that.”
On Friday, all of the men tell the judge they understand the charges. “Pleas of not guilty will be placed on each of them and put on scheduling order,” McGinley said.
WBBJ reached out to attorneys, the suspects and their family members after the hearing, and all declined to comment on the new charges.
