Freed-Hardeman names new head basketball coach
HENDERSON, Tenn. — Freed-Hardeman University’s basketball team will tip off their upcoming season with a new head coach.
The school announced Monday that Jim Sanderson will lead the Lion basketball program beginning with the 2016-17 season.
Sanderson takes the position following the resignation of Jason Shelton who resigned earlier this month after 11 years to take the head coach position at Chester County High School, according to a release from FHU.
Sanderson’s prior coaching experience includes 24 years at Faulkner (Ala.) University where he led his team to an NAIA National Championship in 2001.
“I am truly grateful and thankful that the Lord has put me in this position,” Sanderson said in the release. “My family and I are very excited about being back in college coaching and the opportunity to become a part of the Freed Hardeman family. We are very familiar with the Christian campus environment, which will help us make a difference in the lives of young people.”
Prior to his coaching career, Sanderson attended the University of Alabama where he obtained a bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1982, according to the release. He currently is pursuing a master of science degree in guidance and counseling.
