Ex-airport VP filed discrimination lawsuit before death
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A former Memphis airport executive who was killed in a car crash last week had filed a federal discrimination lawsuit against the airport days before he died.
Former Memphis International Airport Vice President George Mabon died Saturday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after the car he was riding in was hit by a vehicle that police believe ran a red light.
The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/1s8Vwtj) reports that Mabon, who was black, had filed a lawsuit on May 17, accusing airport President Scott Brockman of treating him “more harshly and adversely” than his white peers. Brockman couldn’t be reached for comment.
Mabon left the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority in March for reasons that airport officials have not disclosed.
Airport associate counsel Christy Kinard declined to comment on whether the lawsuit will proceed.
