AAA offering ‘Tow to Go’ this Memorial Day Weekend

JACKSON, Tenn. — With Memorial Day Weekend approaching, the American Automobile Association (AAA) urges everyone to prepare for a safe holiday weekend if they intend to drink away from home. Preparations for a safe holiday includes choosing a Designated Driver, staying where you are celebrating or arranging for another form of safe transportation.

Hand of man giving car keys to designated driverAccording to a recent AAA survey, within the past year, one in three motorists have admitted to driving after consuming alcohol.

“Survey results like this are very disheartening,” said Amy Stracke, Executive Director of the ACG Traffic Safety Foundation. “When motorists don’t plan ahead to celebrate safely, they put everyone’s safety at risk.”

In 1998, AAA began their Tow to Go program, which is designed to provide a safe form of transportation to those who did not plan ahead.

Anyone in Florida, Georgia or Tennessee can call for a ride anytime Friday, May 27 through 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 31. AAA will transport the driver and their vehicle home or somewhere safe within 10 miles.

“The Tow to Go program is an effective way to promote the use of Designated Drivers and help prevent impaired driving,” said Katja Zastrow, Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility for Anheuser-Busch. “We are proud to partner with AAA and their roadside assistance drivers to help keep our roads safe.”

Tow to Go Services:

  • Confidential local ride within a 10-mile radius to a safe location
  • Service is provided in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee
  • Free and available to AAA members and non-members
  • The AAA service vehicle transports the driver and their car.
