Crockett County Investigators search for thieves

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn — Investigators in Crockett County are searching for thieves who broke into a home off Highway 152, Thursday.

They said its one of at least 7 that have happened in the last several weeks, and something those who live nearby describe as troubling.

Crockett County Burglaries“Its a little de-nerving to know that someone has gotten themselves into a situation where they think they have to take from others,” Crockett County resident, Jerry Peal, who lives just a few miles from the latest burglary, said Friday. “It’s sad. This used to be a community that you don’t have to lock the doors.”

Peal told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News that is exactly why he has surveillance cameras outside his home.

“It just gives you a little extra sense of comfort to know that you’ve got that one extra step that you don’t have to worry about someone coming onto your property and taking things.”

Investigators said being aware of who is in your neighborhood is something everybody can do to help out.

“Especially with the amount of people who’s going to be away from their homes on the weekend, I would have them just to talk to their neighbors,” Sgt. Allan Gilliland said. “If they know their neighbor is not going to be out of town, just have somebody looking out after the house.”

Investigators could not give a description of who they are looking for in the recent burglaries because it is an ongoing investigation, but said if you have any tips, call the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department at (731) 696-2104.
