Police: Woman stole more than $1K in rent from tenants
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – A 53-year-old Biloxi woman accused in a scheme in which apartment tenants were swindled out of more than $1,000 is now in jail.
The Sun Herald reports Biloxi police arrested Debra Jean Stacener on a charge of felony embezzlement Friday.
The arrest stems from an investigation into the theft of money from her employer, the Southwind-Woodland Towns Apartment Complex.
Police say Stacener kept for herself rent payments from tenants over about six months. Taking more than $1,000 from an employer is a felony under state law.
Police took her to the Harrison County Jail where she is held on a $10,000 bond.
Online jail records do not list an attorney for Stacener.
