Forest County urges residents to sign up for Smart911
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) – Forrest County officials are encouraging residents to get on board with Smart911. It’s a program that allows users to create a Safety Profile with information that helps 911 workers respond to emergencies quicker and more efficiently.
During a news conference Tuesday, officials spoke about the benefits of Smart911, which adds participants’ health details to the information already received by dispatchers.
Forrest County’s 911 coordinator Debbie Windham tells The Hattiesburg American health information can tell emergency responders what to expect when they get to the scene.
Windham says about 800 people are signed up for the program, which is less than 1 percent of the approximately 70,000 in the service area.
