Hub City receives recognition for Jackson Walk development
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Hub City is being recognized by the state of Tennessee with a unique project still growing in downtown.
“It’s a really exciting area right here,” Chris Felder said. Felder opened up Grubb’s Grocery in June of 2015. He said the area is even attracting visitors from out of town. “Every week, it seems like there are new people moving into town.”
“It’s been really exciting. It’s been very well received. We’ve learned — and we thought this before we opened — a lot of people would drive here from surrounding areas because there’s nothing like it,” Felder said.
With retail stores like Grubb’s filling up this area, the state has handed the Hub City an award for Environmental Stewardship. The area is also home to nearly 150 residents.
“We’re very excited about what’s been done. It’s continuing to grow. We won the LEAD Award. Everything is bike-able, walk-able and beautiful downtown,” said Ashley Carmack with Jackson Walk Apartments.
After the land was completely cleared in 2003 due to a tornado touching down, developers said they took initiative to build it up, and they never looked back.
“Seeing this beautiful area evaporate and come up to what it is now, I just love it and I love coming down to the Lift exercising,” said Linda Hudson, a member of the wellness center.
“With the Amp and everything, everybody’s going everywhere all the time,” Carmack said. “There are 5Ks going on, all kinds of events going on downtown. I think that’s what keeps people here.”
Developers say more projects are in the works to continue the growth of the area.
Ten other cities received awards for their efforts. Those other projects include:

Emmett Elementary School – Sullivan County
