Bargain hunters head to Highway 70 for annual mega yard sale
JACKSON, Tenn. — The 13th annual Highway 70 Yard Sale kicked off Thursday morning.
From Memphis to Music City, vendors will line up along Highway 70 for more than 200 miles of sales.
“In my experience is you meet a lot of interesting people, you have a lot of fun, don’t take anything too seriously. You just wheel and deal and don’t worry about it,” vendor Joe North said.
While thousands come out to snag a deal, veteran vendor Sonny Witherspoon said he only sees three types of shoppers.
The first is the “professional.” “Those are the people looking for antiques,” he said.
The second is the “selective shopper,” or the one looking for a specific item, and finally the “browser.” “They’re just out looking and hopefully they’ll find something that they can’t do without,” Witherspoon said.
Bargain hunters will have to navigate through rows of items filled with toys, paintings, furniture, china and bikes.
“I just kind of do the drive-by and if I think I see something interesting, I’ll stop,” avid shopper Jim Hardin said.
Hardin said he hits the sale every year and plans to return on Saturday with his wife. “The last day is the best day for deals,” he said.
Several vendors tell WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the prices are flexible and if shoppers decide to come out on Saturday, they’re more likely to leave feeling lucky.
“On Saturday, you’re saying ‘don’t you wanna buy this?'” Witherspoon said jokingly.
Most sales start at sunrise each day.
