Jackson’s 1st LGBT pride parade: ‘it was much love’

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The organizer of Jackson’s first LGBT pride parade says authorities thought it might be rowdy, but it was, in her words, “much love.”

Temica Morton says she’s wanted to hold such a parade for three years, and was glad to see it happen, in spite of a misunderstanding with police.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that as the parade’s 10 cars and golf cart were pulling out of a parking lot Saturday, police said only two cars and the golf cart could roll.

It took several blocks for parade marchers to organize into a solid group.

A few hundred people watched.

WJTV-TV reports that at the end of the route, some marchers got into a shouting match with protesters who used loudspeakers and signs to accuse them of sin.
