Suspect in Biloxi Waffle House shooting pleads not guilty
BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – A 45-year-old man accused in the Nov. 27 shooting death of a Biloxi Waffle House server has pleaded not guilty.
The Sun Herald report Johnny Max Mount entered his plea to a murder charge on Monday.
He is set to stand trial Feb. 13 in the death of Julie Brightwell.
According to court records, Mount was seated at a counter when Brightwell told him he couldn’t smoke his e-cigarette inside the Biloxi restaurant.
Police have said he became angry and pulled a 9 mm handgun from his waist.
When Brightwell saw the gun, she ducked behind a counter but Mount got up, leaned over the counter and shot her once in the head. She died a short time later at Merit Health Biloxi.
She had worked for Waffle House eight years.
