Brownsville man charged with possession of stolen gun

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — A Brownsville man was arrested Tuesday morning on accusations of having a stolen gun.

InmatePhoto-2Crockett County deputies say Cortez Callaway, 33, was arrested for having a stolen firearm that is connected to a burglary in the area that has already been solved.

The pending charges include felony possession, possession of stolen property and tampering with evidence. Investigators say they have requested the ATF to question Callaway.

“Mr. Callaway has a violent criminal history, a long violent criminal history, and to get a gun off the street is important to the public safety,” Lt. Roy Mosier said.

According to Crockett County Sheriff Troy Klyce, Callaway is a career violent felon. Callaway has been booked into the Crockett County Jail.
