Hundreds of day campers play basketball in annual wellness shootout
JACKSON, Tenn.– Hundreds of day campers took over the Oman Arena Friday to battle it out in an annual basketball tournament.
For the past eight years campers at various day camps across the Hub City have played in the Jackson Parks and Recreation department’s annual wellness basketball shootout.
“As long as they’re moving it’s good for their body and minds,” Administrator of Recreation Bridgett Parham said.
Staff said it’s a way to keep kids active and engaged during the long days of summer. “Our theme for our day camp is commit to health,” Parham said.
Camper Essence Crayton said she prefers playing from the sidelines, “my part is to watch and cheer them on.”
The department will host its annual city-wide youth Olympic games at the Oman Arena Friday July 1st.
