Basketball tournament benefits cancer survivor

JACKSON, Tenn. — Friends and coworkers hosted a basketball tournament Saturday at Oman Arena in Jackson for a local breast cancer survivor.

Proceeds will help Kathy Smith pay for medical bills. Smith recently went back to work as a 911 dispatcher.

Her coworkers thought the tournament would be a big help. “It’s a wonderful feeling just to know that someone thinks enough of you to want to help you out in you time of sickness or crisis,” Smith said. “It really feels good and I am extremely grateful.”

People could purchase food and shirts at Saturday’s tournament. The best teams received trophies.
