Officials: 1 killed, 2 injured at Haywood Co. party shooting
HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — A teenager was killed and two others injured after an early Sunday morning shooting at a party in rural Haywood County.
The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office responded around 2 a.m. to 3649 Rice Road early Sunday morning after receiving a report of gunfire.
When deputies arrived, they realized a party ended with a spray of bullets.
Deputies said the whole thing started after a 19-year-old Hispanic male was “getting jumped.”
People tried to save him but that’s when gunfire erupted, Sheriff Melvin Bond said.
That man was Juan Mavarrete, who was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis due to his injuries.
After deputies arrived they discovered a total of three people had been shot. One of those had been taken to a local hospital by friends.
Authorities say Johnathan Davis was being driven by two friends to a hospital when the vehicle they were traveling in crashed along Interstate 40.
Because of the crash, Davis and his two friends ended up being transported to the hospital by EMS, officials said.
Deputies say a second shooting victim, 17-year-old Elia Hernandez, was shot at the residence as well and later died at the hospital.
A third victim came in by himself and was treated for a gunshot in his right lower leg.
Deputies said they found up to 11 gun shells at the residence.
The house party was in a rural area with no neighbors close by.
Crockett County resident Quindarius Love was arrested Sunday afternoon in connection to the shooting.
Haywood County deputies urge anyone who is involved or who may have any information to come forward and help with the investigation. Contact the sheriff’s office at 731-772-2412.
