Mississippi hearing for Tellis in burning death delayed
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A hearing for the man accused in the 2014 burning death of Jessica Chambers is being delayed.
The Commercial Appeal reported Saturday that District Attorney John Champion says the July 5 hearing will be delayed over a scheduling conflict.
Champion said lawyers for Quinton Tellis could not make the date. He did not have a new date for the hearing.
A grand jury charged Tellis with the death in February. That ended a lengthy investigation into the grisly killing.
Tellis was being held in Louisiana at the time of the indictment. He pleaded guilty in May there to unauthorized use of a debit card which belonged to a slain Louisiana woman. Tellis was not charged in her death.
He was extradited to Mississippi on Thursday.
