Jackson police dept. announces promotion of Deputy Chief Tyreece Miller

JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser announced Friday that he has promoted Tyreece Miller to deputy chief of police.

Tyreece Miller promotedDeputy Chief Miller is a Jackson native and joined the police department in 1997, according to a release from the department.

Over the past 19 years, Miller has worked as a patrol officer, narcotics investigator and criminal investigator, working through the ranks of sergeant and lieutenant in the Violent Crimes Unit.

Miller was appointed captain in 2013 and assumed the Criminal Investigation Division Commander position, according to the release.

“I am honored by Chief Wiser’s decision to place me in this position,” Deputy Chief Miller said in the release. “I welcome the new challenges and look forward to having more of an impact on crime as I serve the citizens of Jackson.”

Deputy Chief Miller is replacing Deputy Chief Patrick Willis, who retired Thursday after 32 years with the department.

As Deputy Chief, Miller will oversee the Operational Support Bureau, which includes Crime Intelligence Analysis, Community Relations, Crime Prevention and the Family Justice Center, the release states. Along with these duties, Miller will continue to command the Criminal Investigation Division.
