Families enjoy holiday weekend on Beech Lake

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — With today being the first day of this three day holiday weekend, folks are heading to the lake to enjoy the water.

Early Saturday morning boaters canoed for miles along Beech Lake, as a part of the annual Festival of Lakes.

This young lady won the boat race her very first time competing.

“I can’t believe that I won my first race,” boat race winner, Emily Schramm said. “I’m probably gonna do good next year too.”

With the Festival of Lakes happening all weekend in Lexington, folks are taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the water at Beech Lake.

“It’s a great weekend the sun is out,” Lener Geaitan said. “We were looking for something to do with the family, I brought my kids.”

Family’s started their weekend at Beech Lake riding jet skis, tubing and just splashing around.

“I enjoy swimming a lot, its actually very nice out here,” Mia Geaitan said.

“Oh its great,” said canoe racer Tim Schramm said. “Beech lake, it’s a really nice family friendly lake, its good water, good people.”

Although some may be worried about crowds this holiday weekend, other say there’s no better time to come out.

“It’s really fun and there’s more people,” Katheryn Kanizar said. “The waters really good and it has the ripples so its fun.”

“It definitely a good time, to have a good time with the family and enjoy yourself basically,” Geaitan said

With so many water activities and the festival of lakes happening this weekend organizers say Lexington is the place to be.

“I love it theres no place,that I would rather be, especially on the fourth of July because it just a great setting its beautiful,” Executive Director of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce said.

The festival of the Lakes in Lexington last through Monday.

Sunday an opening ceremony will begin at 2:00 pm and at 7:00 pm there will be church by the lake.
