Shiloh National Military Park brings history to life for Independence Day

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. — An Independence Day celebration at Shiloh National Military Park took visitors back in time.

Shiloh cannonVisitors to the military park had four chances Monday to catch the show as living historians fired a cannon and showed off other equipment and tools used during the Civil War.

The draw of the cannon even brought travelers from other states.

“We found out about the cannon shooting and thought it would be interesting,” park visitor Tina Lewis said.

Park rangers say of the 246 cannons used in the Civil War fight, 96 of them were 6-pounders like the one on display Monday.
