Man arrested, charged in Brownsville beating

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn — Tuesday morning turned into a bloody scene in Brownsville, after police a man broke into a home and attacked a woman.

Neighbors said the attack happened after the man broke into her home while her two year old son was in the house as well.

Brownsville Beating“I just kept calling and calling,” Doug Jackson, who called the police told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News, Tuesday. “I said, ‘Y’all please hurry up and get over here. This guy is beating this girl to death with a hammer.’ If it wasn’t for that glass breaking and everything, he probably would have killed that lady right there.”

The attack moved from the woman’s house to Jackson’s front steps as she tried to call for help.

Jackson said he did not know anything was going on until he heard noise coming from outside.

“When I heard the glass break, I thought someone was breaking in the house,” Jackson explained. “That’s when I jumped up and ran to the door and looked out there and he had her right there beating her with a hammer telling me to get back.”

Police believe that man was Isiah Wilson, 28, who has been charged with attempted first degree murder.

Authorities said as they were pulling up, he took off in his car, leading officers on a chase, crashing into a tree just a block away.

Officers reported Wilson would not get out and was eventually tased.

“Isiah had done time for a charge back from (when he was a) juvenile,” Brownsville Police Department Assistant Chief, Kelvin Evans said. “He’s been out approximately six months. I believe he was charged with some kind of rape charge.”

Meanwhile, those who know the victim said it has been a tough day for the entire neighborhood.

“It scared me. It happened to her, it could happen to anybody,” neighbor Wanda Chapman said. “She didn’t deserve that at all.”

“I figure I saved somebody’s life, that’s great,” Jackson said. “That’s the best I could do, but I hate to see somebody get killed or hurt like that. It really was a shock.”

Authorities said the victim suffered serious injuries but was last listed in stable condition.

Police said they are still waiting to interview her further.

As for her two year old son, neighbors said he is now with family.

Brownsville police are still investigating the attack and cannot say how or if Wilson knew the victim.

They also believe there could be more charges filed as their investigation continues.
