THP Jackson district releases stats on holiday weekend enforcement

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s eighth district has released the numbers for their ramped-up Fourth of July weekend enforcement.

thp-vehicle.jpgThese “Operation Firecracker” stats are only for the THP’s District Eight, which consists of Benton, Carroll, Chester, Decatur, Gibson, Hardin, Henderson, Henry, Madison, McNairy and Weakley counties.

Troopers made 33 DUI arrests, issued 228 seat belt citations and 240 speeding citations during the holiday weekend period spanning from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 1, to midnight on Monday, July 4, according to a release.

They also issued 27 due care citations, 27 revoked/suspended license citations, made eight felony arrests and issued 314 other citations.

Along with their traffic enforcement, the THP also participated in the Tennessee Trucking Association “Take a Break” event in Madison County at the I-40 Rest Area.

Troopers also assisted with traffic at three major fireworks displays in Jackson, Pickwick and Paris Landing State Park, according to the release. The agency also released seven holiday PSAs and used two TDOT message boards to increase awareness along I-40.

Dispatch entered almost 1,000 “10-81” traffic stop calls in the CAD with 314 of those stops occurring after midnight.
