Corps of Engineers sets change of command in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The Army Corps of Engineers in Memphis is holding a change of command ceremony next week.

The Memphis District says Col. Jeffery A. Anderson will transfer command of the district to Col. Michael A. Ellicott Jr.

The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Columns at One Commerce Square in Memphis and is open to the public.

The district says it has been in service since 1882 and has 450 employees who work to minimize flood risk, keep the Mississippi River open for navigation and preserve the environment. The district’s area of responsibility covers 25,000 square miles in parts of Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Kentucky and Illinois.
