Kids at Star Center’s art camp create works of art

JACKSON, Tenn.-School will not be back in session until August, but dozens of West Tennessee kids are not waiting until then to learn.

The Star Center’s art camp is under way this week. Organizers said the 5-day event combines educational art-making and appreciation.
Campers are split into two age groups, 1st through 5th grade and 6th through 12th.

Each day, a new artist will be studied and campers will use their techniques to create works of art of their own.

“We’ve offered a variety of different camps before, but this is the first time we’ve done something that’s just plain ole art appreciation for elementary or high school kids,” said Janie Giles Carp, art therapist.

An art show will be held this Friday afternoon for friends and families of the campers.
