Officers work to ID woman killed by train in Gibson County
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — The investigation continues in Gibson County after a woman was hit by a train Monday morning.
The fatal incident happened near Cades Atwood Road near the Gibson and Carroll County line. The Gibson County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call around 10 a.m. Monday saying that someone may have been struck by a train.
When they arrived on scene, Gibson County Sheriff Paul Thomas said a white woman had been hit by the train and killed.
Along with the sheriff’s department, Milan fire officials were also on scene.
Sheriff Thomas said according to one of the initial reports from the train engineer, a woman was noticed on the side of the track. Train engineers signaled with their horn and whistles for the woman to get out of the way.
“She just didn’t move off the side of the track enough, and you know the train attempted to stop, but there’s just no way to stop a train that fast,” Sheriff Thomas said.
Gibson county officers are working to try to figure out who the unidentified woman is and why she was out on the tracks alone.
“We’re looking in the area around the tracks for any identification, any purse, any belongings, anything that might help lead to her name,” Thomas said.
They searched the area for nearly two hours and were still looking for information as of Monday evening.
The only information that has been released is that she was found fully clothed and had no other items with her.
Sheriff Thomas said the investigation is still in its initial stage and that they are working to identify the woman.
